Luke 13:20-21
20 And again he said, ‘To what should I compare the kingdom of God? 21It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.’

Blog Discussion Question: The "three measures of flour" that is spoken of is an incredible amount of flour. So, what is Jesus trying to tell us about the kingdom of God (God's reign of mercy and forgiveness) in this short parable?

I am totally perplexed on the yeast and flour compared to the kingdom of God. Looking forward to today's discussion!

Pastor Jerry, your summary of the "inviter and the invitee" of the banquet yesterday was superb! Money is a "hard thing to overlook" and it seems to overtake our vision very easily--sometimes without us even realizing it. Thanks for all the insights!

This too, is like the preceeding mustard seed parable in that it demonstrates how something small becomes great. However this short parable may add another point about the kingdom being like the functioning of yeast. It is infectious. And the growth of the kingdom is like the yeast...out of OUR control. So we can plant the seeds or drop in the yeast and step back and watch it GROW, but give God the glory!

I find the operative word in this parable to be "all". It is an immense amount of flour that is spoken of in this parable, and the woman mixes the yeast until ALL of the flour was leavened.

It reminds me of Philippians 2:10,11 "at the name of Jesus EVERY knee shall bend in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and EVERY tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
