Luke 12:16-21
Then he told them a parable: ‘The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, “What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?” Then he said, “I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.” But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?” So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich towards God.’

How else might have the man answered his question, "What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?"?

Maybe this farmer did have a logical reason to tear down his barn and build bigger barns..I guess I see no problem with that--it's his eat, drink, and be merry attitude--has he shown care for others along the way? Has he shared "some of his barn harvest" with others in need? Without knowing the time or the place that each of us will be called to enter His kingdon, we've all got to realize there's more to life than building bigger barns--if "bigger" is always our way of daily living! This is a very difficult parable to "live" also, isn't it? Guess we can give all the blame onto our "culture".....(I know the answer isn't that easy!!!) I was surprised we didn't get more discussion on the Good Samaritan...never too late! ...In my reading, I've read that "The Prodigal Son"--our first parable of discussion--is rated as THE world's best story--not just Biblical story, but BEST STORY....and Jesus used relatively few words, didn't He? One ending that I have read---the Prodigal ended up going to Seminary!!!!! All things are possible with God, correct?????

Well...he may have answered his question by saying, "I know what I will do. God has so blessed me, I will take this abundance and share it with others who have not been so blessed."

I don't know that this answer would have extended his life, but at least he would have experienced the joy of watching a mother who's baby was helplessly crying with an empty stomach, rejoice that her baby would be fed....he would have experienced the joy of seeing a old man who no longer could work, living on a fixed income not have to choose between putting food on his table and medical care....he would have seen the joy in seeing a child go to bed and be able to sleep instead of being restless with hunger pains.......

Ah...what joy he missed by hoarding the blessings God had given him.

I, I, my,I, I,I,my,my,I,my,...there seems to be a trend and a problem. The problem wasn't that he didn't have a plan, it's that his plan did not include God. Even when he sought consultation, he consulted and spoke to HIMSELF.

There is a great deal of planning required in production agriculture today. This is a great reminder to include some thanksgiving in the plans to the One who makes it all possible.

Luke 12 verse 15 should also be included before the parable to help with wisdom. Greed, material world, operated by whom? The material world woos souls to hell. Deceitfulism of materialism sends one to hell. He loved his money? The rich fool. Lay up treasures for yourself or your rich towad God
