May 3

1 Sam. 24:1-7
When Saul returned from following the Philistines, he was told, ‘David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.’ 2Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to look for David and his men in the direction of the Rocks of the Wild Goats. 3He came to the sheepfolds beside the road, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were sitting in the innermost parts of the cave. 4The men of David said to him, ‘Here is the day of which the Lord said to you, “I will give your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it seems good to you.” ’ Then David went and stealthily cut off a corner of Saul’s cloak. 5Afterwards David was stricken to the heart because he had cut off a corner of Saul’s cloak. 6He said to his men, ‘The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to raise my hand against him; for he is the Lord’s anointed.’ 7So David scolded his men severely and did not permit them to attack Saul. Then Saul got up and left the cave, and went on his way.
BLOB DISCUSSION QUESTION: What does this tell us about those times when people tell us to do something that just doesn’t set well with us?

If something that we are told to do does not set well there is a reason it doesn't. Today, we have the Holy Spirit to help giude us but i'm pretty sure that back then there still had to be some form of consience. I'm not saying that it is easy to not do something that a trusted friend asks of you because you think that it is wrong. But it is still your own action not the words of someone else that tells others who you are.

No one could have blamed David for ridding himself of Saul. AFter all, life wasn't exactly peaceful with Saul on his tail. Nevertheless, David remembered who he was, and who Saul was.

This is one of those humorous stories that you can't really tell from the pulpit. When people say that the Bible is dull, they obviously haven't read this story. One can only imagine how David was able to slice off a bit of Saul's robe while he was taking care of nature. It is one of those vulnerable times....but David didn't take advantage of it.
