1 Sam. 25:1
Now Samuel died; and all Israel assembled and mourned for him. They buried him at his home in Ramah.

Then David got up and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

BLOG DISCUSSION QUESTION: Why didn’t Saul fear Samuel’s influence as much as he feared David’s?

Saul vs David.....David vs Saul...Saul vs David....
David must've had extreme will power not to have killed Saul...but just cut off the corner of his cloak.....then actually feeling bad about even cutting off the corner! Sometimes I have trouble remembering that David and Saul are human beings just like myself....
You're right, Pastor jerry, I don't think I've ever heard a sermon on the David-Saul-cutting the corner of the cloak story...
It's a good thing that we live by Jesus' intentions and not our own!!! As to your question, I'm anxious to read your opinion. it seems that Samuel was never a threat to King Saul....

i guess we will never know exactly why Samuel wasn't viewed as much of a threat by Saul as was David. Truth to be told, Samuel, the prophet's place in Israel was to speak the heart of God, which when you're in line with God, that is a good thing, but when you are not, it is not so good.

Maybe Samuel wasn't such a threat because he wasn't in line to take Saul's job. It was Samuel, however, that selected David to be the next king....mmmm...maybe Saul should have seen Samuel as a bit more of a threat.

We do the same thing as Saul. We compartmentalize. We don't realize that many things bleed over to others, many things interconnect.

Nevertheless, the Bible says that all of Israel mourned Samuel's death....he must have been pretty important!
