1 Sam. 21:10-15
10 David rose and fled that day from Saul; he went to King Achish of Gath. 11The servants of Achish said to him, ‘Is this not David the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another of him in dances,
“Saul has killed his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands”?’
12David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of King Achish of Gath. 13So he changed his behaviour before them; he pretended to be mad when in their presence. He scratched marks on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle run down his beard. 14Achish said to his servants, ‘Look, you see the man is mad; why then have you brought him to me? 15Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?’

BLOG DISCUSSION QUESTION:David turned his fear into resourcefulness....what do we tend to do with our fears?

This is certainly a very, very rare example of resourcefulness!!! Just act crazy??? Perhaps our ways of dealing with our fears are about as "far out"...hopefully not. But..as the saying goes, "we might have "trouble" come knocking at the door, but we don't need to give him a chair to sit on!"

Fear.....what does it do to us?

Paralyze us - almost like facing a barking dog, when faced with something ominous we freeze in hopes that somehow it wont attack us, and we'll be safe...unfortuntately when we freeze we can't stretch out our hand to help, either.

Despair - as if in a sinking ship with no lifeboat, when hit hard with fear we throw our hands up in the air in hopelessness....unfortunately, despair loves company.

Lash out with violence - the best defense is a strong offence...unfortunately, a strong offense can be skunklike offensive, offensive to everyone.

There may be others, but when we remember that God goes with us, we can do what David did...be resourceful. "If God is with us, who can be against us?" says Paul in Romans 8....when the heat of fear rises, when we trust in God our resourcefulness just might begin to bubble.
