1 Sam. 22:1-5
David left there and escaped to the cave of Adullam; when his brothers and all his father’s house heard of it, they went down there to him. 2Everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him; and he became captain over them. Those who were with him numbered about four hundred.
3 David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab. He said to the king of Moab, ‘Please let my father and mother come to you, until I know what God will do for me.’ 4He left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold. 5Then the prophet Gad said to David, ‘Do not remain in the stronghold; leave, and go into the land of Judah.’ So David left, and went into the forest of Hereth.

BLOG DISCUSSION QUESTION: How excited, do you think, David was to leave his hiding place and return to the land of Saul?

Thanks for the blog comments, sorry for my silence but I have been reading them.

I am sure David was not excited at all. Yet he has been trusting of the One who has been leading him and bringing him to his rightful place.

David's faith appears strong, unlike many of us who would surely be stubborn and not want to face those who have persecuted us.

To be a follower of God isn't always safe. Sometimes we find ourselves stepping into situations and things that are beyond our comfort zone. I don't know if this is true, but as I think about the witness of the Bible, I believe that if we are always trying to play it safe, we probably are not going where God would be leading us. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that we should look for dangerous and crazy things to do....but it does mean that when we should not be surprised if we feel a tug to leave our comfort.
